August 11, 2009 was the day. The opening celebration of downtown’s first grocery store in almost 25 years. It’s called Culinaria, a Schnucks market and it’s located at 9th and Olive Streets. The store, although smaller than a typical suburban store, has an open, airy feel to it.

The aisles are wide and the range of products, as well as the pricing, is comparable to Schnucks’ other stores. There is a Kaldi’s Coffee outlet in the store and several prepared food stations. Culinaria also brings the first pharmacy downtown.

Downtown dwellers will now have an answer to the question: “Where do you go grocery shopping?”
