At the office space above Mike Shannon’s Restaurant, Cardinals President Bill DeWitt III spoke about the latest developments regarding the Ballpark Village development. He said they’re working on financing phase 1 of a scaled-down version of the original plan.

This new phase 1 consists of two blocks of development, rather than the earlier proposed seven blocks. The two blocks would include retail and office components. Residential is not a part of this stage. Part of phase 1 would be a “Cardinals Nation” restaurant with a Cardinals museum and hall of fame on the second floor. There would be an outside deck with views inside the stadium seating about 100. DeWitt did not say anything about other possible retail at this first stage, other than that they’re in negotiation.

The second block would have an office component. Cordish and the Cardinals are currently negotiating with prospective tenants (Stifel Nicolaus?). According to DeWitt the office tower would measure about 250,000 square feet and be about 14 stories tall. About the height of the stadium lights. Phase 1 would be built directly Northeast of the stadium, roughly around the spot of the softball field.
DeWitt projected that if the financing would come together and the public incentives would be secured as planned, building could start at the end of this year. Completion of the retail component would take about 12 months, whereas the office component would take about 20 month to complete. He emphasized that future phases would still contain a residential component.
