C. Patrick Stanley III will continue the tradition his great-grandfather started here in 1876.  Born in Ireland, Charles P. Stanley started his Cigar Store at the age of 22.  One of  the famous cigars he sold was the “Treaty Bond”, created originally for the World’s Fair of 1904. The Stanley Cigar Company featured over 270 different “private label” brands and they had several locations in St. Louis, including this one at Olive Street:

The company became one of the largest wholesalers of cigars in the country with plants in Havana, Cuba and Tampa, Florida.  The great depression caused Stanley Cigars to suspend operations.

Now, in 2011, cigar lovers can rejoice once more.  C. Patrick Stanley III and Kevin O’Reilly Stanley have fired up the company on 11th & Washington, just a few blocks from the original location. The new store celebrated its grand opening on Thursday, March 2nd.
