Market Street lined with Red

They had achieved the impossible: win the World Series. Now it was time to honor the new Champs, St. Louis-style. Market Street was packed from about 2 pm. The parade was scheduled to start at 4. It was windy, there were some raindrops, or Texas tears as somebody called them. A fashionably 20 minutes late, Tony La Russa led the parade, riding shotgun on the traditional Budweiser Clydesdale-drawn carriage. And there they were: Freese, Carpenter, Pujols, Berkman, Lohse, Schumaker, Motte. The whole team, family members, Cardinals management and employees were invited to come along. It was a party, thousands were cheering, and before you knew they were gone. La Russa announced the next day that this was it: he’s done. 32 years, 16 of which in St. Louis was enough. Time to move on. We know we speak for everyone: Tony, thanks for 16 fantastic St. Louis Cardinals years!
