Entrance on 7th Street

A new Embassy Suites Hotel recently opened between 6th and 7th Streets on Washington Avenue. The Embassy Suites brand disappeared from downtown when the franchise on Laclede’s Landing became HoteLumière as part of Pinnacle’s Lumière Place Casino development. This new hotel under the Embassy Suites flag is strategically located on the east end of Washington Avenue, literally on top of the Convention Center MetroLink Station.

Embassy Suites Lobby

Located in the Laurel (former Dillard’s) building, the new hotel is part of the Mercantile Exchange development. It has 212 rooms and occupies the first 5 floors in the building. The top 4 floors are reserved for Laurel’s 205 residential apartments. Soon to join the Embassy Suites are Robust Wine Bar on the corner of 7th & Washington, and the new National Blues Museum on the southeast corner of the building.

4th Floor Common Space

Across the Street we find the other component of the MX development, the old St. Louis Centre, now MX building. Developer Amos Harris plans to start the build-out of a new movie theater in January and hopes to have it completed by June 2012. It will be part of the STL Cinemas chain, well-known for their Chase Park and Moolah theaters. Further, Pi Pizza, the St. Louis pizza company who’s pizzas are favored by POTUS will open its newest restaurant in the MX in 2012.
