The $79 million renovation of the St. Louis Central Library on Olive, between 13th and 14th Streets is in full swing. Work is slated to be completed in the summer of 2012. In the meantime, the park just to the south across Olive has received a makeover. The newly-laid concrete walkways and fresh grass give the park a shiny new look. Once the library is finished all buildings on the four corners of the park will have been renovated. The Park pacific, P.D. George and Soldiers Memorial all recently underwent complete renovations. With a combined 289 new residential units, more than 45,000 square foot of office space, a planned restaurant, and a brand new Central Library, the future of this corner of downtown is looking bright.

The renovation looks great. Question, who is paying for that $79 millio dollars?? Is that all tax dollars or are there private donations?
Jennifer,
The city has sold $65 million in bonds to fund the library renovation. Emerson has donated $4 million, the Dana Brown Charitable Trust gifted $1 Million, Edward Jones and Monsanto $500,000 each, The Whitaker Foundation and William T. kemper Foundation $250,000 each and Wells Fargo Advisors donated $150,000. The short answer: about 80% tax payer and 20% private money.
Oh boy! Look at that ParkPacific building. Anyone heard about what they have there?
